Cycads for sale in Cape Town
Cape Town growers deal with a wet winter and a windy summer. Cycads handle the wind well — several species come from exposed coastal thicket — but need free-draining soil so the winter rain runs through rather than sitting around the caudex.
Every plant below is listed by a South African seller with permits attached to the listing, priced in Rand. Payment runs through Cycad Central, and the seller is only paid once you have the plant.

No sellers in Cape Town have plants on the market at the moment. Cycads travel well, so it is worth looking at the whole market — most sellers arrange courier or road transport.
Buying a cycad in Cape Town
- Check the permit first. All South African cycads are protected; a private seller needs a possession permit and a nursery a selling permit. Both are attached to the listing.
- Know the going rate. Plants are priced by caudex width — compare against the current rate per centimetre.
- Ask for the species to be confirmed. An independent expert identification is recorded permanently against the plant.
- Arrange collection or transport with the seller. Large plants travel best bare-rooted and shaded.
