Cycads for sale in the Eastern Cape
The Eastern Cape is where the blue cycads come from — horridus, trispinosus, lehmannii, princeps, longifolius and the critically endangered latifrons all occur in the province. Local growers have the climate for them, and plants sold here are often close to their natural conditions.
Every plant below is listed by a South African seller with permits attached to the listing, priced in Rand. Payment runs through Cycad Central, and the seller is only paid once you have the plant.

No sellers in the Eastern Cape have plants on the market at the moment. Cycads travel well, so it is worth looking at the whole market — most sellers arrange courier or road transport.
Buying a cycad in the Eastern Cape
- Check the permit first. All South African cycads are protected; a private seller needs a possession permit and a nursery a selling permit. Both are attached to the listing.
- Know the going rate. Plants are priced by caudex width — compare against the current rate per centimetre.
- Ask for the species to be confirmed. An independent expert identification is recorded permanently against the plant.
- Arrange collection or transport with the seller. Large plants travel best bare-rooted and shaded.
