About Stangeria eriopus

Two broad forms are recognised in cultivation. The grassland form is smaller, with short, stiff leaves and a habit of dying back and reflushing after fire; the forest form is larger and softer, with long, broad, distinctly fern-like leaflets and a prominent midrib on each leaflet.

It is heavily used in traditional medicine, which along with habitat loss is the main pressure on wild populations. Nursery-propagated plants are readily available, and there is no reason for a collector to accept wild-collected material.
